Each country has its unique characteristics, here are some things I had never seen before!

Kookaburra
This Australian bird is really cool because it laughs! They are known as the 'Laughing Jackasses of Australia' but of course when I saw them, they decided NOT to laugh for me! |
|
Roo Crossing
You definitely do not want to hit a kangaroo, those things are huge!
And if a wild one gets a hold of you it will prop itself up on its tail, grab you with its front paws and gut you with its back legs. Not a very pleasant way to go!

The Bird of Paradise
This beautiful tropical flower was everywhere in Australia! |
|
Cuddly Wombats
This was my favourite Australian animal! I think they know how to live. They spend all their time sleeping and eating, my kind of animal!

So it's ok to Drink and Drive??
That's right, only in Australia have I ever seen a drive through liquor store.
Now if this doesn't make getting your liquor easy I don't know what does.....

My Favourite Beer
I was never a big beer drinker, until I got to Australia. It gets so hot here that the only thing to quench the thirst is a nice cold beer! Although we all think Foster's is Australian for beer, that is not true. No one here drinks Fosters.
Tooheys was my favourite, I wish I could get it in Toronto!

Macca's???
Sydney reminds me a lot of home but the obvious difference is the Australian accent.
What is really funny is that Australians shorten EVERY SINGLE word.
Television = Telly University = Uni Breakfast = Brekkie
Now of course there is a McDonald's on every corner of all the cities I have seen so far in Australia. And in true Aussie style they have shortened the name to Macker's. But they spell it Macca's and prounounce it Macker's! And we actually found a real sign of the short form!
